Homelessness and plastic waste are huge problems. Join a BC project to help tackle both! Come by the RISE MakerSpace, B-237, this Homecoming Thursday to support those sleeping on the streets while reducing plastic trash.
More Information:
The greater Seattle region has the third largest homeless population in the country, after NYC and LA (11,199 people in King County alone, as of Jan. 2020). Americans use 100 billion plastic bags per year, for an average of 12 minutes each (and they degrade VERY slowly).
Help support a project that addresses both issues by turning plastic bags into water-resistant, cushioned bedrolls for our local homeless population. These can help keep people dry, and thus healthier, when sleeping on the streets. And they keep plastic bags out of the trash.
No experience or equipment necessary. Just come with an interest in working with your hands to support the project. (And if you like to crochet, please come!) Not only are you helping others, but this is great for stress, too!
While we offer this every Thursday, 12:30-2 p.m., this week is a part of Homecoming. So, please stop by, and encourage your colleagues and students to, as well.
