Two sessions at the upcoming Faculty and Staff Equity Professional Development Day will feature discussions of titles from Equity Reads, a Bellevue College Library collection designed to build community through literature and conversation.

The Equity Reads book club sets were funded by the Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation.

“Disability Visibility” by Alice Wong

Karen Diller, associate dean of the Library, will lead a discussion of “Disability Visibility,” edited by Alice Wong.

The book is connected to the Disability Visibility Project, an online community dedicated to creating, sharing and amplifying disability media and culture.

Copies are available through the Bellevue College Library, many King County Library System locations, including the Bellevue Library, and The Seattle Public Library. “Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories From the Twenty-First Century,” the longer edition, is also available as an ebook through the Bellevue College Library and King County Library System.

“The Best We Could Do” by Thi Bui

Outreach Librarian Elena Maans-Lorincz will lead a discussion of “The Best We Could Do” by Thi Bui.

This graphic memoir tells the story of Bui and her family, including their experiences during the Vietnam War and their immigration to the United States.

Copies are available through the Bellevue College Library and local public libraries.
