Ariane Hayes has been named to the position of Dean of the Health Sciences, Education, and Wellness Institute (HSEWI). Hayes has been serving as Assistant Dean of HSEWI since the summer of 2022, working with outgoing Dean Leslie Heizer Newquist.

“As the incoming Dean of the HSEWI, I am excited to lead an institution dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities through education and service,” said Hayes. “I am eager to continue my work with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to continue building upon the Institute’s solid foundation and enhance our impact both locally and globally.”

Hayes first came to BC in 2016 after eight years at Whatcom Community College (WCC). While at WCC, she obtained her first tenure and led the Medical Assisting Program (MAP) as Director. Her extensive teaching career includes founding the MAP at BC, where she earned her second tenure in 2018, as well as facilitating instruction at HC.

Hayes has also served as Workforce Education Coordinator (WEC) for King County through Seattle Colleges and has been an advisor for the Faculty of Color Mentorship Program through the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC).

As HSEWI Dean, Hayes will oversee and manage a diverse suite of 14 program areas, ranging from early learning and nursing to physical education and wellness. In addition to awarding certificates, two-year degrees, and bachelor’s degrees, HSEWI includes grant initiatives such as Hospital Employee Education and Training (HEET), a program that offers onsite training for hospital employees to help them advance in their careers.

In welcoming Hayes to her new position, Rob Viens, Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs Office, said, “It has been a pleasure to work with Ariane over the last year in her role as HSEWI Assistant Dean, and I am excited to continue to work with her in her new role. I am confident she will provide solid leadership for the Division and will build on her core strengths of listening to students, supporting their needs, and advocating on their behalf.”
