Equity Reads Book Discussion Highlights “We Hereby Refuse”
Bellevue College invites faculty and staff to participate in the spring Equity Reads book discussion, featuring the graphic novel We Hereby Refuse from the college’s Equity Reads collection.
Hosted through the Faculty Commons and supported by the Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation, this two-part discussion will be led by Outreach Librarian Elena Maans-Lorincz. The selected book explores the stories of three survivors of the unjust incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, including one from Seattle. The discussion aligns with Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month and the May 14 dedication of “Never Again is Now,” an art installation by local artist and activist Erin Shigaki.
As an added highlight, illustrator Ross Ishikawa, a graduate of Bellevue College’s Digital Media Arts program, contributed to the work.
