Celebrate Earth Month with the Office of Sustainability. Join us for a public transit orientation, an Indigenous plant talk, an eco-poetry writing workshop, a book lecture, and a discussion of learnings from the Costa Rica Experience.

Public Transit Orientation by Hopelink
Monday, April 21 | 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM (two sessions) | C Building Fountain
Learn how to use an ORCA card and navigate public transit around campus with a walking tour. We will take a short walk to the Eastgate Park and Ride, use an ORCA card (provided), and ride the bus back to campus. This is a great opportunity to learn how to ride the bus and receive a free, pre-loaded ORCA card ($22 value)! Native Plant Talk with Pamela SeaMonster

Join Snohomish Tribal Elder Pamela SeaMonster as she shares traditional stories and Indigenous wisdom about the native plants of the Pacific Northwest. Learn traditional Coast Salish uses of many plants that grow on the Bellevue College campus and beyond.

Eco Poetry Writing Workshop

Professor Dungy, author of the recent book “Soil: The Story of a Black Mother’s Garden,” will lead students through a poetry writing workshop focused on the intersection of writing about nature, environmental action, and identity. This workshop is open to anyone; no poetry background required. Registration required.

Professor Dungy will talk about the experiences that led her to write her recent book “Soil: The Story of a Black Mother’s Garden,” which addresses the intersection of race, climate justice, and community history. This lecture is open to the public, including students, faculty, and staff.

Costa Rica Experience – Bringing a “Blue Zone” Lifestyle to Bellevue College

Hear from Bellevue College students on how Blue Zone living on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica compares to that of the United States and Bellevue College, specifically. These Global Wellness students traveled to Costa Rica during spring break of 2025 to answer research questions about the impact of the power nine attributes and how these lifestyle practices could be brought back to Bellevue College and have an impact on us all.
