More Information:
The following trainings are required for all Bellevue College employees who are members of a screening committee (including program chairs, screening committee chair, bias mitigation advocates, and all other screening committee members) and hiring managers:
Recruiting and Selecting Excellence Training
This training equips the participant with the foundational knowledge for conducting a fair, impartial, and equitable recruitment. It also connects committees with resources and provides an overview of how the Office of Human Resources can support committees during the recruitment and selection process.

This training will focus on understanding and minimizing bias during the screening committee process. It also connects committees with resources and provides an overview of how the Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation (OCCIT) and the Office of Human Resources can support committees during the recruitment and selection process. We will also offer guidance on best practices, ensure compliance with the college policies, and provide tools to enhance the effectiveness and fairness of the selection process.

Bias Mitigation Advocate Training
The following trainings are required for all program chairs and any eligible screening committee members who also wish to serve as a bias mitigation advocate.
The Recruiting and Selecting Excellence and the Fairness and Equal Opportunity training courses are prerequisites for registering for the Bias Mitigation Advocate Training. Bias mitigation advocates have the responsibility to facilitate bias mitigation and intervention in the recruitment process. They are screening committee members, and they have the authority to interrupt a screening process to address potential issues of bias within the screening process. They work closely with Human Resources and the chair of the screening committee to ensure a fair search.
The Bias Mitigation Advocate Training is one step towards recognizing true cultural change and understanding the components of and the need for a fair recruitment process. All bias mitigation advocates will be able to demonstrate active involvement in building a more capable campus workforce; recruiting, retaining, and developing a community dedicated to bias mitigation; and developing and contributing to a workplace and/or teaching environment that supports the college’s commitment to addressing community needs for all.
