Digital Communications: A Quick Guide
In a digital world that’s always evolving, clear and consistent communication is essential. Bellevue College’s style guide outlines specific guidelines to help us navigate digital terminology effectively. Here’s a quick reference for key terms and formatting, ensuring clarity and professionalism across our communications.
URLs and Email Addresses
When including a URL or email address in your text, omit “http://www.” to keep it clean and straightforward. If a URL or email address appears at the end of a sentence, remember to place a period after it.
Example: Learn more about our programs at bellevuecollege.edu.
Common Terms and Usage
Here are essential terms and their correct usage, based on the Bellevue College style guide:
Login (noun/adjective): Use as one word when referring to a noun or an adjective.
Example: “Enter your login information to access your account.”
Log in (verb): Write as two separate words, without a hyphen, when used as a verb.
Example: “Please log in to your account.”
NetID: Always capitalize “NetID” when referring to the digital identifier used for online services.
Website: Use as a single lowercase word.
Example: “Visit our website for more information.”
Webcam: Also, one lowercase word.
Example: “Make sure your webcam is turned on before starting the virtual meeting.”
Wi-Fi: Capitalize “Wi” and “Fi,” and use a hyphen in between. Avoid variations such as “Wifi” or “WiFi.”
