Have you ever thought about solving problems at work or improving your business process? Have you ever wanted to improve a process, but didn’t know how to identify the root cause of the issue? Do you feel that if you shared your viewpoint with a coworker or boss, you might not get heard?

BC presents us with a rich tapestry of complex problems and processes. This workshop will help you learn how to break these challenges into manageable components and employ SMART techniques to identify root causes.

Within this framework, you will also discover that the journey towards lean and continuous improvement commences with individual action and that you can bring transformative change in both our educational environment and broader community just by developing a few important and impactful skills.

Course Details
1. Lean in Practice ─Waste
The definition of Waste, as it relates to Lean and Process Improvement.

2. SMART Problem Solving
How SMART goals relate to problem solving.

3. PDCA and 8 Step Problem Solving
The interconnectivity of a cycle and steps.

4. Brainstorming the Problem
• How to create a mind map.
• How to identify contributing factors.

5. A3 Report
The use of the A3 Report to visually tell the story.

6. Everyone’s input matters
• Go to the Gemba.
• Why everyone’s input at all levels really matters.

7. Why Statements
• Why 5 times?
• Understand the Fishbone Diagram.

8. Visualization tools
• 80/ 20 Rule.
• Pareto Charts.

9. Report-outs
• Why we have report-outs.
• When we should conduct the report-out.

10. Move to Action
Commit to creating a problem-solving culture at Bellevue College.

Facilitator
David Ortega, Business Analyst, Change Management Office. David is certified to teach Lean Problem Solver to Bellevue College employees. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, certified Project Manager, as well as a certified Prosci Change Management Practitioner.
