The Black Employees of Bellevue College (BEOBC) and the Black Student Union along with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are partnering with Bellevue College’s XR Lab and eLearning to present the Virtual Seattle Black History Tour on Thursday, June 15, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
In celebration of the coming Juneteenth holiday. Dr. Paul Jackson will host an immersive journey of notable locations that have shaped the African American narrative in Seattle. Leveraging the capabilities of Google Earth maps, Jackson will utilize panoramic 360-degree pictures and sky view visuals to narrate his stories. This groundbreaking platform enables seamless information sharing across various computer platforms and is easily accessible on the web.
The tour will be conducted online via Zoom. The proceedings will also be recorded for those unable to participate in real time. Registration is required.
Jackson’s passion for Seattle’s Black history is rooted in his extensive experience with web-based media. Jackson has a PhD in Computer Engineering, specializing in virtual reality technology. His career includes notable contributions to the field while working at Boeing, where he developed virtual reality applications and simulations.
The XR Lab, located in the BC library, is committed to the application of new virtual reality and simulation technologies as tools for thought, offering students and guests the opportunity to augment their learning through immersive, multi-sensory experiences. The lab works closely with eLearning, and offers state-of-the-art virtual reality display devices, educational software for interactive learning experiences, and an open-source networked video conference classroom space that features presenters from across the world.
