KBCS 91.3FM Turns 50 This Year!

On this date in 1973 Bellevue College students transmitted their first radio broadcast! Happy 50th Anniversary 91.3FM KBCS-HD1. Listen to a KBCS interview with one of the first radio hosts.

More Information:

91.3FM KBCS-HD1 is public radio providing Puget Sound with essential music and news.

The roots of KBCS took hold in the early ‘70s. A group of Bellevue College students set out to become broadcasters. After their initial request was declined, they held a President’s office sit-in protest. In February of ’73, KBCS went live with a tiny 10 watt transmitter and equipment donated by KING-FM.

Gradually, KBCS evolved from a student radio club into a professionally managed public media organization. Thank you to all the student and community supporters. Thank you Bellevue College for supporting radio broadcasting and amplifying student and community voices. Thank you to all of our listeners and supporting contributors.
