It’s been a long time since we’ve all been together having fun. Let’s celebrate being back at Bellevue College by coming together as a community in a relaxed, fun, and cultural get-together. Bring your lunch to the cafeteria (C building) and join the Brazilian Club and the Latino Student Affinity Coordinator to listen to a live band that will play samba!<\/p>\n

What is Samba?<\/h4>\n

Brazilian culture has produced many popular styles of music, one of the most iconic of which is samba. Samba is a Brazilian music genre that originated in the Afro-Brazilian communities of Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century.<\/p>\n

Samba is a type of popular music with roots in Afro-Brazilian traditions. Samba music is distinct for its characteristic rhythmic patterns, emphasis on melody, relatively simple harmonies, use of African percussion instruments, and Portuguese-language lyrics.<\/p>\n

While the Brazilian music scene has spawned many genres, from bossa nova to Choro, samba is arguably the nation’s best-known musical export. Samba has long featured in the annual Brazilian Carnival, where it is performed by ensembles known as samba schools (or escolas de samba).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
