To coincide with the permanent installation of local artist Erin Shigaki<\/span><\/span>\u2019s artwork Never Again Is Now<\/em>, the Bellevue College Library is hosting a special display featuring photographs and newspaper articles that document Bellevue\u2019s Japanese American community and the discrimination its members endured prior to the forced incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II.<\/p>\n

BC Library Features \u201cNever Again Is Now\u201d Display<\/strong><\/p>\n

To coincide with the permanent installation of local artist Erin Shigaki<\/span><\/span>\u2019s artwork \u201cNever Again Is Now,\u201d the Bellevue College Library is hosting a display on the first floor near the Tech Hub.<\/p>\n

The display features photographs and newspaper articles documenting the Japanese American community in Bellevue and the discrimination its members endured prior to the forced removal initiated by Executive Order 9066<\/span><\/span> during World War II. The exhibit also includes information about the 2020 defacement of Shigaki\u2019s original installation at Bellevue College.<\/p>\n

Artwork by a former Bellevue College student is also featured, commemorating the impact the defacement had on the campus community. In addition, books about Japanese American incarceration are available to browse and check out.<\/p>\n

A digital version of the display is also available online through the BC Library.
