Disability Pride Month Tidbits: Autism Awareness Day
On April 2, 2019, the United Nations hosted the 2019 World Autism Awareness Day: https://www.un.org/en/events/autismday/
World leaders met at the UN New York Headquarters, to discuss strategies that will increase access to assistive technology worldwide by making resources more accessible and affordable. UN officials recognized that “while technological advances are continuous, there are still major barriers to the use of assistive technologies, including high costs, lack of availability, lack of awareness of their potential, and lack of training in their use.” Additionally, this awareness day was focused on leveraging the use of assistive technologies for persons with autism, to remove barriers in full social, economic, and political participation in society.
